Round 9. 7/1/12
Games in the Huon Channel
Cricket association recommenced on Saturday 7th January
after the traditional Christmas/ New Year break.
A Grade were on the road to
Snug where our opponents elected to bat first but lost a
wicket to Jamie Knott off the very first ball of the
innings. They consolidated however and we were made to
work very hard for our wickets. At the conclusion of
their 50 overs they had scored 9-219 with opening
bowlers Jamie Knott 3-33 and Ash Woodhead 2-39 being the
most successful of our attack.
Our opening batsmen Daniel
Elliott 69 and Trent Rollins 21 added 54 before Trent
fell in the 15th over. We then lost our skipper with the
score 73 before Elliott and Jarrod Collis 20 took the
score to 109. Garry Smith 23 and Daniel then added a
further 46 before both fell within a couple of overs to
leave us 5-166 in the 39th over. Jamie Knott 26 no and
Stuart Conway took the score to 5-206 in the 46th over
when the wheels fell off as we lost our last 5 wickets
for just 12 runs and lost the game by 1 run with 3 balls
remaining. A disappointing end to the game for the Crows
as our captain reminded his players in no uncertain
terms after the match.
B Grade played their first
game at home for some time and skipper Levi Treptow,
heeding the weather forecast of rain during the
afternoon, took the somewhat unusual option of electing
to bowl first. Heath Collis 3/24 took the first three
wickets to leave Woodbridge 3-21 and from there they
were not able to gain too much momentum and were
dismissed for 114 in the 36th over with Shannon Woolley
taking 5-30.
Mal Godfrey then unleashed
an all out assault on the Wombats' bowlers as he raced
to his 50 in the 5th over. At that stage the Crows were
0-53, Godfrey on 50, Dave Leamey on 1 and Extras 2. Mal
eventually fell for 76 in the 10th over after hitting 12
4s and 4 6s. Leamey 27 no and David Bain knocked off the
remaining runs after only 12.3 overs.
On Sunday our C grade were
on the road to Castle Forbes Bay to take on the Southern
Tigers. We choose to bat first and after losing a wicket
on 7 were able to get useful contributions from most of
the batsmen although at 6-161 we probably weren't
thinking that we would end up 6-249. Braden Livingston
batting at No 5 was the backbone of our innings making
80 no. Chase McConnon scored 36 opening and skipper
Jonathan Cashion 26 no shared an unbroken 7th wicket
partnership of 88 with Braden.
The Tigers put up a
determined batting effort with good contributions from
their first three batsmen in particular. In the 37th
over their no. 8 batsman struck 22 runs to take the
score to 6/171 before he was caught off the final ball
of that over for 41. From there we were able keep taking
wickets and eventually dismissed them for 204 in the
44th over to record a crucial victory. Livingston
completed a great match by taking 4-36 while Cashion
took 3-21.
