Last weekend was another successful one for
the Crows with all three teams recording
good victories.
A grade took on Margate at home and looked
in a fair bit of bother when they were 2/10.
Brett Stevenson 41 and Jim Murray 24 got the
innings back on track adding 71 for the 3rd
wicket and then Jamie Knott ensured we would
make a good total with a great knock of 83.
Jamie added 74 with Levi Treptow 32 for the
7th wicket and with our last pair
adding a valuable 19 runs off the final 2
overs enabled the Crows to finish on 9/239.
Margate got away to a brisk start and
reached 28 before Dale Punshon claimed their
1st wicket in the 6th
over. He then knocked over the next 3
batsman in pretty quick fashion to leave
them teetering on 4/45. That soon became
6/75 before a partnership of 50 for the 7th
wicket kept them in the game. The advent of
spinners Andrew Henley and Dan Elliott who
both claimed figures of 2/23 saw them wrap
up the tail and dismiss Margate for 136 in
the 38th over. Punshon was the
stand out bowler with 4/30 off his 10 overs.
B grade travelled to Margate where the home
side batted first and made 8/215 off their
allotted overs. Brad Bailey 2/25 and Andrew
Downie 2/31 were the successful wicket
takers.
This total was going to be a real test of
our batting depth but Dwain Swan, back
playing after a while out of the game, made
a great 88 and he received great support
from another of our recruits, Damian Pearce
who opened the batting and made 45. With
Jason Jones contributing 23 we were able to
pass their total for the loss of 5 wickets
but there were not a lot of overs left.
On Sunday C grade took on Margate 2 at home
and batting first we reached 35 without loss
before slumping to 3/43. Jason Wicks came to
the crease at No 7 and scored a brilliant
105no that enabled us reach 8/286. Brent
Stanway in his first game for some time made
50, Ash Woodhead made 35, his twin brother
Daniel 21 while Alistair Triffitt made a
career high 19.
Ash then produced a fantastic spell of
bowling to decimate the Margate innings. He
finished with 5/16 off his 10 overs as
Margate were dismissed for 72. Gab Lefleur
took 2/10 and it was great to see Jayden
Woodhead take a wicket in his first game.
Triff completed his best game on record by
snaring a catch and taking a wicket. This
was a real confidence booster for the young
team and it is great to have someone like
Jason Wicks’ there to guide our lads.
At this stage A grade and C grade have a bye
this coming week with B grade taking on
Kettering at home. Our A grade team is
hosting a “Family Barbecue” on Saturday
night so it will be a great chance for all
involved in the Club to get behind B grade
and enjoy what should be a great night.
