Round 3 08-09
Last Saturday saw our A grade team have the Bye
while B grade took on Kettering at home. Our new
shirts had finally arrived and the team looked
resplendid in their
coloured
uniforms as they took to the field first.
Kettering got of to a good solid start and it
took until the 18th over before they
lost their 1st wicket with the score
on 40. At 1/103 in the 30th over we
looked to be in for a big run chase but we were
able to contain them to 8/167 off their 50 overs.
Jason Jones put in a terrific spell of 2/17 off
10 overs. He got good support from Andrew Downie
with 2/26 also off his allotted 10 overs.
Early wickets kept the pressure on in our run
chase but an aggressive 37 from Dwain Swan
batting at No. 4 who combined with opener Gareth
Percey 31 to add 52 for the 3rd
wicket righted the ship. Mark Styles’ arrival at
the bowling crease reduced us to 7/107 and he
threatened to ruin the Crows’ party. However
Jason Jones 31no and Chris Tomlin 21 took the
total to 155 before Styles again struck. Jones
and skipper Andrew Downie were able to score
from the other end and see us over the line in
the 38th over with the score 8/172.
This was despite the heroic and miserly bowling
of Styles who took 3/8 off 9 overs, 2 of those
runs being wides.
This match marked the 150th game for
the Crows by Gareth Percey who was presented
with his games medal during the celebrations
after the game. Following that we enjoyed a meal
put together by the A players. A great night was
enjoyed and it was particularly pleasing to see
the number of children in attendance.
C grade came crashing back to Earth on Sunday
when they travelled to Huonville to take on the
newly formed Bulls C grade. Batting first we
struggled a bit early but with Malcolm Scriber
20, Dan Woodhead 19 and Manning Parkinson 10
taking us to 3/75 it is unthinkable that we
would be dismissed for only 82 in 24 overs.
We were always going to struggle to defend that
total and despite having then 2/16 they were
able to pass our total in the 23rd
over for the loss of 4 wickets. Captain on the
day, Dean Heywood took 2/19 while Anthony Leon
and Simon Matthews each took a wicket.
Everyone at the Crows wishes Andrew Henley their
best wishes as he undertakes major surgery this
week. We sure hope to see you up and about and
back on the field soon Mammy. Unfortunately he
will be in hospital this Thursday for his 40th
birthday. We will all just have to have a beer
for him at training that night.
