Last weekend saw A grade take on
Glen Huon and C grade against Slab
Road with both games played at home.
B grade had the bye.
Glen Huon choose to bat first in A
grade and scored freely until losing
their 1st wicket in the 4th
over with 20 runs on the board.
Their 2nd wicket fell at
54 and then they looked well set
before Dan Elliott snared the 3rd
wicket on 101 in the 23rd
over. Robert Chapman then took 3
quick wickets to set them back on
their heels and they were dismissed
for 159 in the 46th over.
Robert finished with 3/43, Andrew
Henley picked up 2/11, Dale Punshon
continued his fine season with 2/22
while Jamie Knott, Nick Townsend and
Dan Elliott each took a wicket in a
very even bowling performance.
After my words on Andrew Henley in
last weeks column I should mention
that his operation due last week was
postponed and will hopefully be done
this week. At least he was out of
hospital for his 40th
birthday and was able to play
another game for the Crows, his
first in our new shirts and it also
equalled
Andrew Denton’s record for the most
games played for the Club. He was
also rapt to know he has taken more
wickets for the Crows than Wayne
“Perch” Martyn.
Marc Owen scored a brisk 32 out of a
41 run 1st wicket
partnership with Dan Elliott. When
we lost another wicket soon after
Dan and James Murray, 21,
consolidated and added 52 for the 3rd
wicket. Upon James’ dismissal Jamie
Knott strode to the crease and
continued where he left off last
game with a very nicely compiled
42no which, combined with Dan’s
excellent innings of 53no, saw us to
a solid 7 wicket win.
After last week’s bye the team has
another break this week for the Huon
Show. It should be noted though that
B grade does have a game at home
this Saturday.
In C grade on Sunday Slab Road
batted and lost a wicket immediately
but seemed to be back on track when
they reached 30 without further
loss. They then slumped to 5/40 and
never really recovered before being
dismissed for 87 after 31 overs.
Shannon Woolley in his first game
since Round 1 led the way with 4/29
and he got good support from Dean
Heywood 2/15 and Anthony Lean 2/18.
Our openers added 23 thanks largely
to a high amount of wides but then
we also slumped to 3/26. Another
wicket at 31 caused some worries and
when we lost our 5th
wicket with the score at 60 we had a
long way to go. Thankfully though,
Captain, Shane Hall 22no and Jason
Wicks 14no saw us to victory without
further loss. Anthony Lean had
earlier made 15.
Thanks to everyone in the Club who
have given Carol Chapman a helping
hand while she has had her broken
wrist.
