Round 11 (10/1/09)
The
first game of the New Year saw the Crows take on Snug on our
home ground. We batted first and were soon in trouble losing a
wicket in the 2nd over with the score on 3. That brought Brett
Stevenson to the crease where he combined with Dan Elliott to add a
wonderful partnership of 245. Once the partnership was broken our
remaining batsmen were able to throw caution to the wind and we
reached the excellent total of 8/333 off our 50 overs. Stevo
finished on 131 with 18 4s and 4 6s while Dan was unlucky to be
dismissed for 96 with 94s and 2 6s. Marc Owen struck a few big ones
and made 28 and Jamie Knott made 27. The question being asked in the
Club on Saturday night was whether this was a Club record
partnership.
Snug really had a crack at our total and savaged our New Ball
bowlers. Trent Pearce 3/38 and Jamie Knott 3/66 started to take
wickets at regular intervals but they had reached 6/134 in only the
16th over. Dan Elliott 2/10 and Robert Chapman 2/27 were able to
dismiss the remaining batters and Snug were all out for 202 in only
the 34th over.
B
Grade travelled to Slab Road and found runs difficult to score and
could only amass 129 when dismissed in the 49th over. Only Shannon
Woolley 25 and Jason Jones 23 were able to make any significant
contribution.
Although only losing 4 wickets in over hauling our score Slab Road
took until the 43rd over to do so. Ash Woodhead took 2/27 while
Anthony Lean and Jason Jones each claimed a scalp. Jonah actually
finished with 1/20 off his 10 over spell.
Due
to the HCCA Golf Day there were no C grade games last Sunday.
The
Under 15s had a good win a against a very young Glen Huon team on
Friday night.
On
Thursday 15 Jan the Crows are hosting a Twenty20 match against The
Tasman Association starting at 5.30pm. This is part of the State-wide Twenty20 being
conducted by the TCA. There should be terrific entertainment and everyone is
urged to come and have a look. Admission is free and our bar and
canteen will be open.
The
Crows express their sympathy to the Hodgson family on the passing of
former Channel Cricket Association Secretary, Bob.
