Round 12 (17/1/09)
In Round 12 last weekend the A grade
team travelled to Margate where we batted first and looked well set
with the score 2/120 off 32 overs. This improved to 4/205 with 6
overs remaining and a score beyond 250 appeared well within our
capabilities. A dramatic batting collapse however saw us lose our
last 6 wickets for only 20 runs and we ended with 225. Dan Elliott
continued his fine season with 64. Marc Owen scored 45, Jamie Knott
30 and Levi Treptow 20.
After a moderate opening partnership
by Margate we started to make inroads to their batting and at 4/51
we appeared to be heading for another victory. They then built an
excellent partnership and with a couple of chances missed, batted us
out of the game and won in the 47th over by 5 wickets.
Robert Chapman was the pick of the bowlers with 3/38 off his 10 over
spell while Dale Punshon and Brett Stevenson each took a wicket.
B Grade had the bye and this week
travel to Kettering.
Due to a number of players being
unavailable for C grade on Sunday, mainly due to the match at
Bellerive, we had to throw the net far and wide to come up with a
team. Having done that, we then scored a very good victory.
Batting first Scott Dare 41 got us
off to a good start and contributed most of a 58 run opening
partnership. Marcus Newman in his first game for the year came in at
No. 8 and smashed 70 with 7 4s and 4 6s. Heath Collis made 22 and
Gab Lefleur 20 as we made 265 before being dismissed in the 44th
over.
We then took a couple of early
wickets and despite Kettering batters playing some fine shots were
able to take wickets reasonably consistently as they were dismissed
in the 35th over for 140. Jim Murray took 2/4 off 2
overs, Patrick Verrall 2/5 and Anthony Baker 2/14. Heath Collis took
a classic catch, substitute fielder, Ollie Burke, took a great
outfield catch and skipper, Shane Hall, bowled an over to forget.
The Under 15 game on Friday night
was washed out.
Before a huge crowd at the Crows on
Thursday 15th Jan we played a match against Tasman in the
Statewide Twenty20 competition. We were able to score a close
victory. (Please see detailed report elsewhere). Our next game is
also at home, this Sunday 25th Jan at 2 pm against
Branxholm. We encourage everyone to come along and see some good
cricket in this highly entertaining form of the game.
As A grade have the bye this
Saturday and B grade are playing at Kettering we took the
opportunity to schedule a Gala Day with 2 Social Twenty20 matches to
be played. The first game at midday will be between teams made up
and playing under the banner of our two major sponsors. (Vodafone vs
Laminex). The second game will start around 3pm and will be between
the Kingston Crows Past Players and Kingborough Superules. Anyone
interested in playing on the day is asked to be at the ground around
11.30am. You don’t need to have any connection with either of the
businesses or sporting teams to participate.
