Last
weekend’s Round 14 matches in the HCCA saw the Kingston
Crows A grade enjoy the bye, B1 recorded a strong
victory at home against Margate, B2 won their match
against the Southern Tigers by virtue of a forfeit while
C2 had a reasonably comfortable win at Woodbridge. All
our teams are rostered to play in Round 15 with A grade
at home to Longley, B1 at Slab Road, B2 at Snug and C
grade at home to North Huon on Sunday.
In B1
Margate batted first but were always in trouble after
being 1/0. Their situation worsened when they lost 3
wickets for 1 run to leave them 5/56 and didn’t improve
when they were 7/72 in the 27th over. Their
batsmen then knuckled down and although unable to boost
the run rate they did bat out their 50 overs finishing
9/140.
All
the Crows’ bowlers proved to be extremely economical
with Leg spinner Jason Jones 1/10 off his 10 overs being
a classic example. Heath Lovell 2/22, Scott Sward 2/28
and Shannon Woolley 2/37 were the most successful of the
bowlers. James Murray and David Bain both took fantastic
catches.
Geoff
Freeman 66 with 9 4s and 1 6 and Levi Treptow then added
112 for the first wicket as the Crows reached their
target in the 24th over for the loss of only
2 wickets. Heath Lovell hit out at the end to finish
24no.
As
mentioned B2 were not required to take the field.
On
Sunday C2 travelled to Woodbridge where the home side
batted first and made 141 with two of their batsmen
making 106 of those. Richie McInnes took career best
figures of 5/29 and regular wicketkeeper Daniel Woodhead
took 3/39.
Led by
Daniel continuing his recent good batting form and
making 51 we were able to overtake Woodbridge’s score
for the loss of 3 wickets. Gab Lefleur scored 30 and
Richie completed a great match finishing 30no.
On
Friday 5th February the Kingston Crows held
their 19th Annual Golf Day at North West Bay.
The day was sponsored by ND & LL Vince Plumbing and
their No. 2 team of Jason Wicks, Jamie Knott, Gerard
Denton and Ben Hilfenhaus were the winners of the gross
award finishing 10 under par. The Club’s major sponsor
Laminex won the nett. As usual it was a terrific day and
we again extend a big thank you to John Harris and the
North West Bay Golf Club for allowing us entry to their
course. Mal Godfrey and his team of helpers were
outstanding in the way they ran the day. The success of
the day depends greatly on the numbers who participate
and we are very grateful to all the teams that entered
with special thanks to all the sponsored teams. We are
extremely fortunate that Nigel Vince took up the option
to be the naming rights sponsor
of the event.
After
the events on Friday I would suggest that the A grade
players enjoyed not having to play cricket on the
Saturday.
