Round 14 (31/1/09)
In Round
14 of HCCA matches Kingston Crows
A
grade were on the road to take on Glen
Huon.
Batting first on a very dry and obviously very quick outfield we
were able add 65 for the opening
partnership before losing Jason Wicks for 24. This brought Dan
Elliott and Brett Stevenson
together and they combined for
another
marvellous
partnership of 153 before
Stevenson was dismissed for 77. Elliott
continued his fine form posting 145 with
4 6s and 20 4s. Although the Crows were 1/121 after 25
overs
they were able to finish up on 5/346 after their 50
overs.
Other contributions came from Marc Owen 24,
James
Murray 23no and Mal Godfrey 20no.
Glen
Huon
seemed reasonably placed at 2/52 but 3 wicket in one
Jason Wicks’ over saw them crash to
6/56. Michael
Parbs
was able to produce a fine innings but they were dismissed for 142
after 37
overs.
Jamie Knott 3/22 and Jason Wicks
3/21 made the early breaks and then Dan
Elliott
rounded of a dream day by taking 4/28.
B grade
took on top side Southern Tigers at home and batting first were in
early trouble. At 3/55 things
weren’t looking too good and that didn’t appear any better at 6/115,
but Jason Jones, 53, found and ally in Matthew Creek, 42 with 8 4s,
and they added 68 for the 7th
wicket. With contributions from the tail
we were eventually dismissed for 225 in the 50th
over. Of the top order Chris Tomlin made
41 and Marcus Newman 23.
Shannon
Woolley picked up an early wicket but the
Tigers looked to be travelling fairly
well when they took the score to 62 without further loss. Shannon
and Ash Woodhead then wreaked
havoc as
the Tigers crashed to 6/76 and then 9/99
before some big hitting by their last 2 batsmen saw them dismissed
for 146. Woodhead finished with 5/54 after at one stage having 5/26
while Woolley snared the last three catches of the
innings
to go with his 4/35.
C Grade
took the short journey down to Margate to take on their C2 team and
scored a very good win although that was looking unlikely when we
dismissed for 103 off 27
overs.
Dan Woodhead made the most of his experience in B grade and held the
innings together making 46 with 6 4s. Brad Bailey batting at No 5
made 18 but the rest of the batting sheet
looked very
disappointing.
However
the lads struck back with ball as Margate C2 were 1/0, 3/1 and 5/16.
They struggled then to 25 and lost 3 more wickets. They were
dismissed in the 22nd
over for 44 thus giving the Crows a 59
run win. Opening bowlers Brad Bailey 3/10 and
Dean Heywood 2/15 did the early damage
and then Gab Lefleur amazingly took 3/0 off 2.2
overs.
Leggie Malcolm Scriber took the other wicket.
Hopefully this win will give the boys some much needed confidence
for the remainder of the year.
The semi
final of the Statewide Twenty20 competition sees the Kingston Crows
take on Clarence at Kingston Beach on
Friday Feb 6 at 5.15. Obviously Clarence
is one of the strongest cricket teams in
the State but we are confident the Crows’ players will give it their
best shot and do their Club and the HCCA proud.
Well
done to all involved in the
“Bogan
Night” last Saturday night. Thanks also to anyone who has helped
around the Club in recent weeks. The two Twenty20 matches played at
the Crows were very well
patronised
and a lot of work was done by a number of people. Thanks again.
