Local
cricket recommenced after the Christmas
break on Saturday 8th January with A
Grade taking on Huonville at Huonville,
B1 played the Southern Tigers at
Franklin and B2 were at home to
Huonville.
In A Grade
the Kingston Crows got off to a good
start after electing to bat first adding
51 for the 1st wicket. As what seems to
be a too often occurrence losing one
wicket seems to be a formula for losing
many as not long after we were
precariously placed at 6/115. Nick
Townsend and Andrew Henley then rebuilt
our innings adding 114 for the 7th
wicket before Townsend was dismissed in
the final over for a well made 67 that
included 1 6 and 9 4s. Henley remained
39no as we finished on 7/234.. Early in
the innings Hamish Jamieson made 39 at
the top of the order and Jamie Knott
continued his consistent season with the
bat scoring 30.
Knott then
produced a fiery opening spell and aided
by Scott Sward soon had Huonville in
deep trouble at 3/17 and then 4/35. When
Trent Pearce took a wonderful return
catch to dismiss the danger man Brad
Lovell we were well on top. Dan Elliott
weaved his web through the Bull's lower
order and at 7/90 and 8/98 victory
looked a certainty. With the skies
darkening Huonville's late batsmen tried
to hang in and they were assisted by a
couple of missed opportunities and when
their 9th wicket fell with the score on
117 the skies opened and the players
were taken from the field before the
last batsman could even get on the
ground. Unfortunately our guys could
only sit and watch the deluge that would
ensure no further play was possible.
Elliott took 4/23 and Knott 3/17.
B1 took to
the field after the Southern Tigers won
the toss and were able to dismiss their
first couple of batmen before too much
damage was done but from there the
Tigers produced some consistent
partnerships that allowed them to make
7/250 off their 50 overs. Dale Hayers
with 2/51 was the most successful bowler
with Zac Scriber, Chris Tomlin, Stuart
Conway, on debut, and Mick Langford all
taking a wicket apiece.
After a 1st
wicket partnership of 32 we crumbled to
be 5/61 before John Ioannou 37 and Jason
Jones added 48 for the 6th wicket before
Ioannou fell. Another wicket left us
7/116 but Chris Tomlin joined Jones at
the crease and they were able to stay
together until the storm arrived and we
were able to salvage a draw.
B2 batted
first in the game at home with late
minute call up Jack Philp opening the
batting in his first game with the
Crows. Jack made 57 with 10 4s and when
he reached his half century only 4 other
runs had come from the bat. Upon his
dismissal we were not able to offer much
resistance although another fill in
player Tent Riseley made 16 after
getting his eye in. Out total of 123 was
always going to be difficult to defend
against the strong Huonville team.
This theory
proved correct as their openers added in
excess of 50 runs although Gab Lefleur
did then take 2 wickets in 2 deliveries.
Unfortunately that was to be our only
joy as the Bulls overtook our total with
heaps of overs in hand.
