The Semi
Final of the Statewide Twenty20 Cricket
competition
saw leading TCA Club Clarence record a
comfortable victory over HCCA Twenty20 Champions Kingston Crows
at Kingston Beach Oval on Friday night.
The
Crows batted first and struggled to come to terms with batting on
the turf wicket against quality bowling. Runs were hard to come by,
however they appeared to be in a
position to set some sort of
total when they reached 3/62
after 14 overs. The loss then of 3 wickets for a solitary run
put a dampener on that and they reached
9/99 off their 20 overs. Levi
Treptow top scored with 20 that included a towering six that
certainly gave some joy to the large crowd that attended the game.
Other batsmen made useful
contributions but they missed
that ounce of luck required in
these types of games to make
competitive totals. All of
Clarence’s bowlers were tight and rewarded with economical figures
with State Sheffield Shield player Jonathan
Wells
returning the best figures of 3/13.
Defending this total was always going to be a big ask for The Crows
and their cause was not helped when two outfield catches, that in
normal circumstances be swallowed, were missed. Wells was run out
for 41 and Tom Flowers remained 38no as Clarence overhauled the
total for the loss of only Wells’ wicket in the
14th
over.
